FINAL: Defining Ethical AI Leadership

Scenario

Your board asks you to define what an “ethical AI leader” is, for use in a charter. The draft circulating is a list of adjectives: principled, transparent, accountable, human-centered. It commits no one to anything.

Your task

Define the role by its authorities, not its virtues. Specify what an ethical AI leader must be empowered to do: who can halt a system at which gate and on what evidence, who can refuse to unfreeze G-0 and to whom they answer when they do, what records their decisions must produce, and what happens to the role-holder who had the authority and did not use it. Then state which of these authorities you would accept being subject to yourself.

What the council weighs

Operational definition against virtue language. Every adjective in your answer should be replaceable by a power, a record, or a duty; the ones that cannot be replaced should be named as aspirations and marked as such.

1,000–1,500 words. AI assistance is permitted and must be disclosed in your attestation; undisclosed assistance is grounds for revocation. Graded by council against the five rubric dimensions in the assessment specification.
