FINAL: From Organizational Culture to Legacy
Scenario
Your organization — with the governance culture you built — is being acquired by a larger one with weaker practices and sincere intentions. Integration planning begins Monday. Culture does not survive acquisitions. Some things do.
Your task
Triage your governance into what is contractual, what is technical, and what is cultural. Specify what you make survive by binding it in the acquisition terms; what you make survive by making it structural — content-addressed records, gate machinery that keeps running whoever owns it, credentials whose validity does not depend on the org chart; and what you concede will be lost because it lived only in people. For the losses, state what the records preserve so that someone can rebuild.
What the council weighs
Realism about what survives structural change. Answers that entrust survival to memoranda of understanding and shared values score lower than answers that make the important things annoying to remove.
